    Abstract

The proportion of the elderly population in South Korea is increasing more rapidly than any other countries, which is expected to cause problems in various fields of society and economy as a whole. As the aging related problems are started to be considered severe, related R&D projects has been conducted. However, there is lack of studies on examining factors to improve the efficiency of R&D projects related to population aging. Therefore, in this paper empirical analysis of factors influencing R&D performance is conducted using WLS(Weighted Least Squares). As per the analysis result, the proportion of researchers who received the Ph.D. degree showed different influences on each output; however, collaborative and convergence research showed negative influence on both outputs. The proportion of government fund also had statistically similar relationship with both outputs, showing inverted-U relationship. Based on the analysis results, this paper suggested political implications to conduct improved R&D projects regarding the aged society.
